We subtract 180 degrees from the reference angle because we want it to be zero based. Then we subtract the reference angle from the needle angle to get our absolute angle. The next calculations comes from PSI=-.4*theta+86 formula. This formula represents the linear relationship between the angle and the PSI of the gauge. You can derive the same relationship by solving the following two equations.
0 = x*215+y where 215 represents the degrees of 0 PSI
100 = x*-35+y where -35 represents the degrees of 100 PSI
